Frequently Asked Questions

Learn 2 Surf – FAQ

How long does it take to learn to surf?

Most of our students pick up the basics in their first lesson but everyone is different. We suggest book at least one lesson and see how you do. Thereafter you can make an informed decision as to how many more lesson you’d like to do. Practising sports like yoga, skateboarding and snowboarding is an advantage but not necessary.

How much does a surfing lesson cost?

LEARN 2 SURF have schools all over South Africa and all of them charge different prices.
Please click on the PRICES & INFO menu above and then choose the surf school that you’d like to surf at. Complete the form, click on REQUEST PRICES and our website will automatically email you everything you need to know. To book your lesson, simply reply to the email you receive or use our SMS Surf Lesson Booking Hotline (info at the bottom of the homepage). NB: If you do not receive the Prices & Info email within 5 minutes – please check your Junkmail/SPAM folder.

At what age one can start learning to surf?

As a general rule, we say that we coach kids from 6 years and older. We do (and have) coached children as young as 4 years old. It all depends on the child – how keen they are to surf and how comfortable they are in water/the ocean. Younger kids do require extra attention – so we recommend one on one (private) coaching for them.

Do I need my own surfboard and wetsuit?

NO. All of our schools supply all the equipment you require. You only need to bring boardshorts / bikini and a towel.

How do I book a lesson?

If it’s an urgent booking, please SMS us on +27.83.414.0567 the following info:

1. Your Name

2. The Surf School you want to surf at

3. How many people are you booking for

4. When you want to surf (Day & Time)

The best way to book is to request info for the school of your choice using the menus above. Our website will immediately email you all the prices & info you need. In the email you receive will be links to our online lesson booking system or our online shop where you can buy lesson credits or vouchers for any of our schools. (Lesson credits & vouchers need to be redeemed within 3 months)

Do you still have lessons if it is raining?

Yes we do. You will get wet while surfing so rain is no reason to cancel a lesson. The only time we will cancel lessons is if the waves are flat or too big, or if the wind is too strong. Some schools (like Durban) occasionally get blue bottles in the water, in which case we reschedule.

Where are you located?

Our head office (the guys who handle enquiries, bookings and payments for all the Learn 2 Surf schools) is based in Muizenberg, Cape Town. When you book or buy a lesson, they will send you details of exactly where and when to meet your instructors for your lesson – as well as your instructors cellphone number, just in case you get lost on your way to the beach.

Can I pay in cash?

Some of our schools are prepared to accept cash payments but we prefer to take payment in advance in order to confirm your booking. You may pay with your credit card by following the link in the email you receive when requesting prices and info for your school. Or you can make a EFT transfer to our account. Simply let us know which payment method you prefer.

What is your refund policy?

If you do not arrive for your lesson, you will not be refunded.
If you cancel less than 24hrs before your lesson time, you will not be refunded.
If you cancel more than 24hrs before your lesson time, you will be charged a 10% admin fee.
If we reschedule/cancel a lesson and you cannot make the new lesson, we will refund you 100%

How long do I have to use my Lesson Vouchers / Lesson Credits?

Surf Lesson Vouchers and Lesson Credits (from cancelled lessons or multiple lesson packs) are valid for 3 months (or until the expiry date printed on the voucher) and need to be redeemed within this period.
Lesson vouchers/credits are not transferable or refundable
(Please refer to our refund policy above).
Expired vouchers/credits will not be refunded (partially or in full) after the expiry date.
If you are concerned that you may not be able to use your voucher/credits within the 3 month period, please chat to us and we can issue you vouchers for a period that suits you.
Please do not wait until your voucher is about to expire before booking a lesson. The sooner you contact us, the sooner we can advise you which days and times will be best to surf on, and help you use all of your surfing credits before they expire.
If you gift someone a Surf Lesson Voucher, please ensure they are aware of the expiry date.
